RACING CLUB LIFE MEMBER.
Sir—"Phaeton's" record of service on tho staff of the Herald is something to enthuse about, but what perhaps i 3 of even more public importance is the influence of his writings and penality on horse racing in and about Auckland. His genuine love of the thoroughbred _is sonic, tiling good to coino within the influence of J3y tho election of Archie Bruce to a life membership of tho Auckland Racing Club the committee has honoured both itself and tho club in taking him into tho fold of the select, for the reason that much —very much—of the club's wonderful sue cess may? and must be, laid at his door for the very excellent work he has tlonn in keeping tho gamo rather than the prize in tho forefront, and so sweetening an atmosphere that can so easily drift to smelliness. Thousands who know his influence for good ar.d the sunny heart of liim will wish him the best through the years ahead, and may they be many.
