OBITUARY.

MR. B. BAG LEY. The death occurred in Auckland yesterday of Mr. Benjamin Bagley, formerly a well-known resident of Duncdin, in his 85th year. Mr. Bagley was born in Gloucester, England, and was the eldest son of the late Mr. Benjamin Bagley, chemist, of Dunedin, arid one of tho first members of the Dunedin City Council. Mr. Ilagley left England with his father in the fifties, and went to Australia, where he participated in the goli) rush to Bendigo in .1850. A few years later they came to New Zealand, arriving in Dunedin in 1862. After working ior a time on the staff of the Otngo Daily Times, with Mr. Julius Vogel. later Kir Julius Vogel, Mr. Bagley, senr., commenced business in his former profession of chemist and established one of the first pharmacies in Now Zealand. After two years spent on sheep stations in Central Otago, Mr. Bagley, junr., returned to Dunedin and entered his father's business, subsequently founding a business of his own iu 1860.- lie retired some years ago on account of failing health, and for tho past seven years had resided in Auckland with his eldest daughter, Miss A. Bagley, of Turaina Koad, Hoynl Oak. • Mr. Bagley, who was married twice, is survived by his wife and a large family.

Mil. M TAYLOR. The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr. Martin Taylor, aged 78, who was widely known in sporting circles. Mr. Taylor was born in Cumberland, England, and caiuo to New Zealand about 54 years ago. 110 was in business in Dunedin and came to Auckland about 20 years ago. Mr. Taylor was closely associated with coursing and ho was also keenly interested in trotting, lie is survived by his wife, one son, Mr. C. Taylor, of Aucldancl, and" two daughters, Mrs. Davison, of Kakaia, Canterbury, and Mrs. Delargey, of Auckland.

MR. JOHN McCAW. [BY I'KLEGIUrU.—OW.V CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON'. Thursday. The death occurred suddenly to-day of Mr. John McCaw, aged CO, at his residence, Claudelands. Mr. McCaw, who was ono of Waikato's early settlors, was born in Ayrshire, and at the ago of 25 years camo to New Zealand and continued his occupation as farm manager in Canterbury. In 1066 he entered tho cmplovinent of tho New Zealand and Australian Land Company, remaining with Ibis linn until ho was appointed superintendent of the Rank of New Zealand Estate Company's property in the North Island. When tho bank took over the Auckland Agricultural Company's estates, Mr. McCaw became superintendent of tho Waikato properties. Later lie went to live in the Mataniala district, and interested himself i(ji local body affairs. I'or 10 years bo was chairman of the Matamat'a Road Hoard. He was also a member of (lie Pinko County Council, and was appointed by tho Government to the Soldiers' Revaluation Board, He leaves a, widow, two daughters and four sons.

MR. JOHN GILMOUR. [l3 V TELEG n A PII. —OWN' COJIJIESI'ONnENT. ] NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday. The death occurred yesterday of Mr. John Gilmour, at the age of 68 years. Mr. Gilmour was horn in New Plymouth. Ho served in the Customs Department at Auckland and later in Christchurch. In 1882 lie went into business at Manaia, and retired later to New Plymouth. While at Manaia ho was a member of the Town Board and other public bodies.
