OTAHUHU BOROUGH.
WORKS COMMITTEE RESIGNS. NEW MEMBERS ELECTED. The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. A recommendation by the Works Committee that the present methods of carrying out work within the borough be considered satisfactory was defeated at the last meeing of the council. This was taken as a vote of no-confidence, and the committee tendered its resignation as a committee. The following were elected as the new committee;— The Mayor, Messrs. J. Hunter, Petrio and Graham.
The superintendent, of the fire brigade stated that 19 calls within the borough had been received during the year. The question of the water pressure was also reported on, and a recommendation that a Dennis pump bo purchased at an estimated cost of £2OO, expected to bring the pressure up to 1501b., was referred to the Legal and Finnnco Committee for consideration. It was decided to consider tho installation of a tire alarm system when an estimated cost has been submitted.
Considerable discussion took place on the foreman's estimate for certain work. The actual cost of the work exceeded the estimate by a considerable amount. It was decided that in future no estimate of work should be tjxeeeded without authority from the council.
In connection with the application of the Passenger Transport Company 'o the Auckland Transport Board for permission to increase the fares, it was decided to meet the other local bodies concerned and to make a joint protest against the proposal. It was decided to take necessary steps to safeguard tho borough's riparian rignts over the tidal flat of 90 acics on the Manukau side of the borough. A campaign against stray dogs was decided on.
