THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE
UPWARD TENDENCY MAINTAINED
Brisk trading was done on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday at values which indicated a continuance of the firmer (one with which Ibis week opened. None of the shares dealt in showed depreciation, and most changed hands above the previously current rate. Two dealings took place in Government investments, the scrip in each case being Inscribed Slock) <U per cent. The maturities concerned were 1938 and 1939. and the price for each was, £97 12s 6d, a rise of 2s bd. Offers were renewed at £97 10s. Inquiry for other slocks and bonds was continued without, response from holders. Several local body issues we're also in demand.
Banks wifrc again the most active section of tho market. Commercials of Australia continued to improve, being done twice at 2?s ljd, '' hU °f lfld. Two lots of English, Scottish and Australians changed hands at the same price as on tho previous day, £6 17s 6d, and more were available at that figure. Nationals of New Zealand brought the current price of £6 ss. New Zcalands, which have been steadily hardening during the past fortnight, advanced, another sixpence to 595, at which price two parcels changed hands, with the demand unsatisfied. New South Wales were not dealt in, but. offers firmed 2s 6d to £39 2s 6d, and sellers appeared at £39 10s. In the insurance group South British appreciated fid, to sell at 625, the highest level reached this year. Tho hardening of these shares is aftributnblo to tho ap proaching payment of tho half-yearly dividend.
In tho loan and agency group business was confined to Wellington Investment Trusts, which had salo at lis. No local deal harl been made in this scrip in recent times, bub the price equalled that obtained at. Wellington on tho previous day.
In gas Aucklands were done twico at 23s 7d, nn improvement of Id. In shipping Northern Steams showed no variation with sale at Pis. Offers for Huddarl-Parkers advanced Is toward a selling quotation of 33s 3d.
Brewery shares were again steadily sought. New Zealands bail sale Is dearer at 51s 6d.
The miscellaneous group was quiet, the only transactions taking place iu British Tobaccos, two lots of which sold at 40s bd, an improvement of Gd.
