REDUCTION OF 10s PER CENT

Beginning to-day, tho following will be tho rates quoted by the associated Australian and New Zealand banks for buying documentary bills and selling drafts on New Zealand: — Buying. Selling. The quotations aro all 10s lower than those introduced on February 18, the alteration' being complementary to the change in New Zealand quotations published yesterday.

Tho tariff for Australia was revised on March 10, quotations being reduced by 1 per cent, all round. The result is that, whereas the banks in London have bought and sold New Zealand exchango since December 12 at the same rates as Australian, there is now a margin of 10s per cent, in favour of New Zealand.

I AUSTRALIAN TARIFF. IMPORTATION OF TIMBER. CANBERRA, March 19. It is rumoured that under the new Federal' customs schedule the importation of timber in any shape but squared or round logs will he prohibited. DOMINION BREWERIES, LTD. TWO CONCERNS TO BE ABSORBED.

The prospectus has been issued of Dominion Breweries, Ltd., a company which

is being formed for the purpose of acquiring as going concerns the businesses of Waitemata Brewery, Ltd., at Otahuhu, and' Levers and Company, Ltd., wholesale wine and spirit merchants, Auckland. The authorised capital ir. £75,000, divided into 75,000 shares of £1 each, of which 40,000 aro offered for public subscription. The directors anticipate that it will not be necessary to call up more than 15s a share. Of the remaining shares 20.000 are to bo issued fully paid as part of the payment to the vendors and the balance of 15.000 is to bo held in reserve, the directors reserving the right to first offer them at par to the then shareholders of the company. The price of the goodwill of the Waitemata brewery is £3OOO and of the brewery licence £3OOO, and in respect of Levers and Company, Ltd., £2OOO is to be paid for the goodwill of the business and £ISOO for the wholesale licence. The total consideration to be paid for the purchase of the two concerns is £39,200, subject to adjustment for stock, stock in trade and book debts as at date of possession. The separate sale prices arc:—Waitemata Brewery, £IO,OOO cash, spread over five months, and 10,000 fully-paid shares; Levers and Company, Ltd., £SOOO cash, spread over 12 months. 10,000 fully-paid shares and £4200 cash to be paid in Die way of meeting outstanding accounts. The prospectus states that the brewery is equipped with up-to-date .machinery providing for a working capacity of 6000 gallons of ale and stout a week and that with a small expenditure this output could bo trebled.
