PRICES FOR WOOL.
LOWER RATES AT DUNEDIN. FAIRLY KEEN COMPETITION. DISAPPOINTING MERINO DEMAND. [BY TELEGBAPH. —I>BESS ASSOCIATION".] DUNEDIN, Friday. The third wool sale took place to-day, when approximately 23,000 bales were offered. Competition was keen up to a point, and seemed to be well distributed among Bradford and Continental buyers, while local mills were bidding for isolated lots suitable to their requirements. Compared with the last Duriedin sale, super halfbreds gpan bo quotel at ljd to 2d per lb. lower, average to good halfbreds Id lower, crossbreds lower, while pieces and bellies were firm at practically unchanged prices. Tho demand for Merinos was disappointing, and these were Id per lb. lower. An occasional extra super lot met with good competition from the local mills. Growers generally sold freely, aud pass* ings would probably not exceed 10 per cent.
