FORTHCOMING LEGISLATION.
NEW RAILWAY BILL'.
| OTTAWA, Feb. 35. The Dominion Parliament was opened to-day. The Speech frpm the Throne stated that 1929 was the mast productive year in the history of. Canada, with industries other than agriculture, recorditfg the highest employment figures. That the Dominion was already recovering from seasonal slackness was evident at the end of the year, and it was not, to be forgotten that the bulk of the 1929 Vheafc crop still remained in Canadian hands for final disposition.
Important legislation will be brought, down respecting several. railway properties formerly privately owned, but now embraced in the Canadian national system. Other legislation will make more adequate provisions for the needs of war veterans and dependants.
A bill will be introduced \io consolidate the Canada Grain Act, which received much attention during the last session. The report of the Royal Commission on radio will be considered. A soluticn has been sought by a conference on the differences between the Dominion. Ontario and. Quebec respecting water power. There are. hopes that it will lead* to a satisfactory settlement.
