NEW BUILDINGS OPENED,

"WHAKATANE, Friday.
The new Whakatane High School and Manual Training School buildings were, officially opened by the Minister of Education, Hon. IL Atmore, yesterday after* noon in tho presence of a large gathers ing of residents of tho town and dis* triefc. The party was welcomed by Mr* G. S. Bullen, chairman of tho ' Whakat tane School Committee, Mr. ,W. Sullivan, Mayor of Whakatane, and Mr. Walter Reid, county chairman.
The Minister,, in his address, said this was his first visit to Whakatane in his Ministerial capacity. He was touring the country to get in touch with all the children of the schools, members of school committees and education boards so as to obtain a first-hand knowledge of their requirements. He emphasised his desire to turn attention to the land because he believed that by imparting an agricultural bias in tho training of the child fhe problem of unemployment would in the future bo solved to a large extent.
