The following mcssago from Queen Mary has been received by the Administrator, Sir Michael Myers, and forwarded to tho Prime Minister, tho Minister of Health and tho president of tho Now Zealand Obstetrical Society:— "I havo learned with great interest that a campaign is to ho opened this month in New Zealand to raise a sum of £25,000 for the endowment of a chair of midwifery and gynaecology in tho University of Otago. I havo for many years been deeply concerned in all matters affecting the welfare of mothers and children, and I recognise that it is ..by tho advancement of professional and public knowledge that progress in this field can most effectively bo made. "It gives mo special pleasure, therefore, to hear of tho proposal to found a professorial chair in order to further, in the sphere of education, the efforts already being made in tho Dominion for the protection of mothorhood and tho welfare of infancy, and to achieve a further saving of valuable lives.*'' Tho Administrator has sent the following reply to tho Secretary of State for the Dominions:—"Tho gracious message from Her Majesty the Queen, has been received and communicated to tho president of tho Obstetrical Society, in connection with tho apppal for funds to endow a chair of- midwifery in tho Otago University. On behalf of those concerned, I .beg that an expression of respectful gratitude may be conveyed to Her Majesty." Tho Minister of Health, Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, to-day expressed tho gratification of tho Government at the message received from the Queen. He said t)iis further evidence of tho great interest which Her Majesty had for many years taken in all mattors affecting the welfare of mothers and children could not fail in its appeal to her loyal New Zealand subjects.
