AWARD TO TEACHERS.
ALLEGED BROKEN PROMISE.
CONTROVERSY AT SYDNEY. SYDNEY. Feb. i. The Minister of Education, Mr. D. 11. Drummond, declines to hold further ofli cial communication with the New South Wales Public School Teachers' Federation because its president, Mr. McGuiuness, accused the Government of repudi ating a promise to make the teachers' award retrospective to 1927. The Minister declares that no such promise was made, and refuses to recognise the federation until it "appoints as its officers men who may be expected to ccnfirif themselves to fair dealing and truthful statements." Mr. McGuinness maintains that the promise was made, and will not retract the accusation.
