THE £IOO BONUS AGAIN,
OPINIONS OF , FARMERS.
The bonus of £IOO voted by memberr ftf the House of Representatives io' themselves at the closo of last session was discussed at a meeting of tHe Manawatu Sub-Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union last Saturday, Mr. J. T. Kent moved that the executive protest against the action of Parliament in voting an extra £IOO per member, in view of the unsatisfactory state of the country's finances. Mr. F. Maul, who seconded, said it was wrong in principlo that men should go to Parliament and vote themselves extra money. They knew what they were getting when they stood for election. The chairman, Mr. 0. P. Jiynch, observed that such a motion was rather late to have any effect. A Member; They may make it an annual affair. Mr. Kent: The resolution will do for next year. Mr. J. McLeavcy (facetiously): I am quite sure that if we pass the motion they will all givo the money back. (Laughter.) Mr. Maul: Some of them have given it back. A Member: They were wealthy men who did not need it. Mr. B. G. Gower said he was of the opinion that the matter did not concern the union. Mr. Kent: Wo have to find the money. Mr. J. Balsillie suggested that the matter be discussed by the provincial conference. Mr. H. McLeavey: We cannot run a good Government unless we are prepared to pay our representatives well. The motion was altered to a remit to the conference, and in this form was carried.
