DANGEROUS DRIVING.
MOTOR DRIVER FINED.
SEQUEL TO COLLISION
[HY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday.
A charge of driving in a dangerous manner was preferred against G. E. Clout, butcher, of New Plymouth, in tho Eltham Police Court to-day. Accused pleaded guilty. Tho case was a sequel to a collision at th; corner of Cheal Road and Mountain Road, which resulted in Owen Stockman, of Eltham, who was riding a motor-cycle, receiving injuries. The machine was damaged beyond repair.
Joseph Wolfo said he was given a lift from Stratford by defendant. He sat next to the driver. Ho did not notice anything peculiar except that ho went at a fast pace and had ono or two drinks. At ono time on a straight road tho speed of the car was 50 miles an nour. Witness said he saw Stockman's motor-cycle in Cheal Road, when accused's car was about a chain from tho corner. Stockman was travelling at about 5 to 10 miles an hour. When tho impact occurred he had not straightened up his machine in Mountain Road.
Tho magistrate, Mr. R. W. Tate, said he had no doubt that Clout was guilty of negligent driving. Sergeant Hendry said accused had been fined for being drunk in chargo of a car on a previous occasion. Tho magistrate said that in the present case there was a flavour of liquor. Accused would be fined £2, and costs ,C2 16s 6d, and his licenco cancelled for six months.
