PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.

APPOINTING A MODERATOR. OTAGO MAN NOMINATED. A decision to nominate tho Rev. John Collie, of Queenstown, Central Otago, for election as the next moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand was made by the Auckland Presbytery yesterday. After a distinguished career at Otago University and the Theological College, Mr. Collie was ordained to the priesthood in 1901, and was for some time engaged as an assistant minister of Knox Church, Dunedin. Subsequently he held the charges of Dunrobin, North Invercargill, and Queenstown. For a number of years he acted as exit examiner in New Testament theology at Knox College, and was also a lecturer at summer schools for ministers and home missioned in various parts of the Dominion. Mr Collie was recently nominated to the General Assembly for election to the chair of New Testament studies at the Theological Hall, Knox College. The Rev. D. C. Ilerron, who proposed Mr. Collie's nomination, said that apart altogether from tho question of Mr. Collie's suitability for the office, he was a member of the Central Otago Presbytery, and it would be a gracious act on the part of the Auckland Presbytery to support the election of a representative from one of the smaller presbyteries.
