ASSISTANT RABBI'S DEATH.

LONG SERVICE IN WELLINGTON

WELLINGTON, Tuesday

Tho death of the Rev. C. Pitkowsky, assistant rabbi, occurred this afternoon in hospital. He underwent an operation last Wednesday, and since then his condition had given cause for anxiety. Mr. Pitkowksy came to. New Zealand 24 years ago aiid during the whole of that time was the assistant minister to tho late Rabbi H. Van Staveren. The last publio act of the late Mr. Pitkowsky was to officiate at the burial of the late rabbi and on that occasion he delivered an oration which touched tho hearts of tho large- number of citizens who had gathered to pay their last tributes. During the time ho had been in .the city Mr. Pitkowsky had endeared himself to his congregation and also to all tho citizens with whom Jho came in contact. His loss will bo severely felt by the Jewish community of Wellington. 110 leaves a widow and seven children, Mrs. Hollandberg, wife of Dr. Hollandberg, of Winnipeg, Canada; Mrs. F. Goldberg, of New York; tho Misses N., S. and L. Pitkowsky, of Wellington; and Messrs. F. Pitkowsky, of Auckland; and M. Pitkowsky, of Wellington.

The Rev. S. A. Goldstein loft Auckland by train last evening to officiate at the funeral.
