PHILIPPINE ISLANDS.
DEMAND FOR HOME RULE. DEPUTATIONS TO WASHINGTON. SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 2. Deputations will shortly leave for Washington to ask the Gox-ernment lo settle California's Filipino problem. Labour leaders will ask that, all Filipino immigration be stopped. A rival committee of Filipinos, representing more than 60,000, who are living in California at present will agree to accept exclusion if the Philippines be given independence. They want home rule for Manila so badly that almost all the 60,000 will agree to return westward across the Pacific if America will withdraw from the. islands.
The Labour delegates will reply that if that is the pi-ice of exclusion _ they are quite willing to see the Philippines procure independence.
