COST OF REMOVING POLES. INVERCARGILL TEST CASE. A case to sottlo the question of liability in tho removal of power polos will- shortly bo brought before tho Supreme Court in Invercargill by tho Southland Electric-Power Board, according to a letter received at a meeting of tho Auckland Electric-Power Board yesterday. Tho question is of considerable interest to tho Auckland Board as certain poles on the Titirangi Main Highway, which is being constructed by ,tho Waitomala County Council, have to be moved. Having been asked to bear a portion of tho cost, tho board recently obtained a. legal opinion regarding its liability in tho m.'.ttor, and inculatod tho opinion among other power boards in New Zealand. Tho Hawko's Bay Electric-Power Board replied mentioning tho forthcoming test caso in Invercargill. Tho Hawko's Bay Board also said that requests for removals would bo less frequent if tho counties wore responsible lor bearing the

expense. Advorso criticism of the board's refusal to contribute to tho cost of removing the poles on tho now Titirangi Road was made at a meeting of tho Titirangi Ratepayers' Association rocontly. A roquost was received for the bijard to extend its lines to the Sylvan Avonuo subdivision, Northcote. The resident engineer reported that tho capital cost c.f the extension would bo approximately £SOO, and tho gross revenue required would bo £IOO a year. On tho recommendation of the General Purposes Committee, the board decided to extend its lines as requested, provided that the owners of tho subdivision guaranteed tho board £25 a year for five years, toward tho total rovenue required from tho oxtension to tho estate.
