SPEED OF MOTOR-CAR.
CHAUFFEUR FINED £5. COLLISION AT INTERSECTION. A collision on (ho Great South Road at Papn.toetoo on October 22 led to Howard Cooper being charged at tho Otnhuhu Police Court yesterday, before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., with negligent driving. It was stated that defendant, who was chauffeur for Mr. David Nathan, of Manurewa, was travelling along the road at about 25 miles an hour. When he was near the corner of Huia Road, another car came out of Huia Road and continued straight across the Great South Road toward Station Road. Defendant said ho was only about a chain away when the other car appeared. It was travelling at 20 miles an hour or faster. He applied his brakes, but was unable to avoid a collision. The car he was driving had the mudguards and running board damaged. The other car continued on toward Station Road and then stopped. He went across and found that the lady who had been driving it had swooned, but no one was injured.
The magistrate held that defendant approached tho intersection at too great a. speed and a fine of £5 and costs, £1 12s, was imposed.
