LOW SCORING MATCHES.

HARBOUR BOARD MAKES 27. CENTURY TO E. MINCHAM. Conditions were not too pleasant on Saturday, when the. Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association played the first series of matches in the second round of its senior competition. The wickets were heavy after the rain, antl play was delayed for an hour until other wickets were prepared. A rumour to the effect that, the matches had been cancelled caused several of the teams to be short-handed, particularly Harbour Board, which hod three men absent. In all three matches low scoring was tho order, and batsmen found it difficult to get goinc. The dismissal of Harbour Board for 27 runs was the sensation of the day. Splendid fielding by Albion gave its bowlers tho advantage. Albion had little difficulty in compiling 115 for the 1033 of fivo wickets. K. Mincharu. with 100 not out, was the topscorer. Ellerslie scored 173 on a newly prepared wicket against Ponsonby, which has lost three wickets for 43. Green Lane's attack proved too strong for W.Y.M.1., which was dismissed for 87. Kasper, 4G, batted splendidly for the colts. Kerr, five for : j n. and Seccombe, four for 29, bowled well for Green Lane. The grade lenders had lost six wickets for 112 when stumps were drawn. On a sticky wicket, which proved a little troublesome, Ellerslie did well to get 173 against Ponsonby. Two wickets went cheaply, but Watkins. 42, and later R. Burton. 32 not out. proved Ellcrslie's salvation. H. Burton also batted well for 23. Ponsonby made a bad start, Nicklin and Robertshaw going cheaply. Edmunds, 24. was unlucky to be run out. Scores:—

Albion's bowlers caused a sensation by dismissing Harbour Board, which was three short, for 27 runs. Fine fielding assisted the bowlers, who made the most of a drying wicket. Several of the wicke's were recklessly thrown away. Albion made, a splendid start, and compiled 165 for the loss of two wickets. Old Boys replied with 132. Hamilton East in the first innings against Frankton made ISO. Frankton were all out for 21. Before stumps were drawn Hamilton East made 52 for four wickets in their second innings.
