CITY PARKS SUPERINTENDENT.
Sir,—What steps is it intended to take to fill the position" of .Auckland parks superintendent, rendered vacant by tho sad death of tho late Mr. T. E. Pearson ? Will the City Council throw open the position by calling for applications from those wHo consider that thoir knowledge and experience qualify them for tho oflico, or will it automatically bo filled from the ranks of the present employees? It. appears to the writer, who has had experience'in what is being done in some of tho larger cities of, the world in developing the beauties and educational valuu of their cities parks and gardens, that while giving the present employees of the council every opportunity to "apply with others, the appointment—which carries with it tho control of so much public money annually—should provide opportunity to others who may have qualifications.
