TASMAN GLACIER TRAGEDY.
Sir.—-Cannot some measure of _ safety bo provided greater than that which ap pears to\ exist'! In. other parts of the world where the topography is similar, shelters are provided, as caves or rock towers, where travellers may seek shelter temporarily from inclement weather. It would appear that such distances as fen or twelve miles are too great for ladies to travel without possibility of shelter where adverse conditions can so quickly intervene. Had shelter been available Guide Elomfiold would certainly have directed his party there. J.W.D.
