GAS FUMES IN MINE.
COLLIERY AT MAITLAND.
MEN RESCUED JN TIME. SYDNEY, Jan. 21. Seven miners narrowly escaped death at the West Greta colliery on the. Maitland field. The men were working at No. 4 level when a sudden inrush of deadly gas fumes enveloped them. Choking and gasping they staggered through the darkness toward the entrance of the level. When on the verge of collapse they were found and dragged to safety. One man was seriously affected. .
