EVENTS ON SATURDAY, ST. GEORGE'S CLUB CONTEST* ) .... SUCCESS OP SOLOMON'S CREW* The St. George's Rowing Club resumed its trial racing programme on Saturday afternoon with fours: for trophies donated by Mr. W. J. Hampton-Reynolds. Four crewa competed, a very satisfactory entry, as so many men are still on holidays,. Good racing was witnessed. The course in Hobson Bay, alongside the railway line, was used, and splendid water conditions prevailed. The first heat crews were:—-]?. Solomon, T. Lambert, C; Kelleway, G; Bias; W. Bright, I. Duncan, E. Cblebrook, E. Auger, Tlio crews raced on almost even terras to the half-way mark. Solomon then, took thr* lead, -and, warding ofi all challenges by Bright, won by a good length. The Auckland Sowipg Club had arranged . to row trial-fours on Saturday afternoon for the Kohn Challenge Cup.- There was a good attendance of members, but. unfortunately owing to holidays'there were not sufficient new members present to complete the - crews, as required by the rules. RACE FOR SCHMIDT TROPHIES. The North Shore Rowing Club held trial fours on Satjrday afternoon for trophies donated by Mr. Schmidt. Ideal water conditions prevailed and the race:) were rowed over the long- course from tho Iris to a point off the boathouse. Three crews competed. Mr. S. Rutland-was judge, and the starting: was by mutual consent. : The first heat crews were:—M. McCallum, C. Oliver, B. Vowles, C. Oliver: F. Nonis, fc: -Eaton, D. Walsh, C. Willetts. McCallum's crew was quickest away and at once assumed the lead.- The advantage was steadily increased until when about 'ooyds from the line Norris challenged. McCallum's creiv responded, and drawing out won by two .lengths. ._ljn the final McCallum's crew met D. Davies,. D. Townsend, C. Carlyle and C." Eagles. McCallum's crew again, got the better of . the start. " The lead was held throughout and the crew crossed the line two and a-quarter lengths to the good. WAITEMATA BOATING CLUB. EADDY'S CREW WINS MASON CUP. The Waitemata Boating Club held trial fours on Saturday afternoon for the Mason Cup and trophies donated by the club. Three crews competed. The water conditions were splendid. over ■ the course -from Oiakei to the eastern tide deflector, Mr. L. -Brooker was umpire and stantfer. The crews were:—R. G; Barker, C. P Belton, M. N. Pierce, P. Usher; W. Hi Eaddy, N. Hunt. E. Homing, L. Ellison; C. G. Fearon, E. T. Bishop. C. Howard, T; C. Conway. From a good atart Fearon's crew Wa3 first to sho.w to advantage, and it held the lead to J.he gap. Eaddy then made his effort and forged ahead in the closing stages. * A spirited effort by Fearon. was warded'off and Eaddy drew out to win by two lengths from Fearon, who was just over a length in front of Barker.
