BRITISH COAL.
TESTS MADE IN CANADA
DEPARTMENTAL REPORT
(Received January 3. 6.45 p.m.) British Wireless. RUGBY. Jan. 2. The superior quality of British coal has been demonstrated in a series of tests instituted by the Canadian Department of Mines. Its report says these tests were carried out with 30 fuels of most varied types ranging from anthracite to peat.
The most efficient fuel tested was Welsh anthracite, 8.4 tons of which were equal to 10 tons of American anthracite, which was taken as a standard. Scotch semianthracite coal was nearly as good.
In the week ended December 21 Britain's coalmines produced 5,647,200 tons. This exceeds any single week's output since May, 1924. The wage earners employed in the mines for the week numbered 949,400.
