BOOKMAKER IN COURT.
ARREST MADE IN CITY.
FINE OF £4O IMPOSED.
" This man is what might bo termed a silver bettor, and carried on in a city hotel," said Chief-Detective Hammond when a charge of bookmaking was preferred in the Police Court yesterday against James Henry Rogers, aged 49, who admitted the offence. Rogers was arrested in a hotel the previous morning by Detectives Nalder and Stevenson.
"Ho was fined £25 last June, but has carried on with the business," said Mr. Hammond. "He is a decent fellow otherwise, and is married, with six children."
The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, imposed a f\ne of £4O.
