BULLET HITS MOTORIST.

STRUCK WHILE DRIVING.

WOUND NEAR RIGftT EYE.

HOLE THROUGH WINDSCREEN.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHKISTCHUKCH. Friday.

A pea-rifle bullet struck Mr. A. Adams, a teller in the Methven branch of the Bank of New Zealand, when he was chiving near Dunsandel this morning on his way to Christchurch. The bullet cut cleanly through the windscreen of the car, cut a path along the side of Mr. Adams' head, and went on through an open side window of the car. It missed his right eye by about- an inch and caused the blood to flow freely.

" I heard a swish," said Mr. Adams, "and then my daughter in the front seat with me asked me what I had done, for the blood was streaming down my face and coat. I did not hear the report of a rifle and did not look particularly to see if there was anyone nearby with a rifle.

"We were drawing near Dunsandel when it happened. There were no other cars near us, so the hole in the windscreen could not have been caused by a flying stone. The hole in the glass is round, cleanly cut and just the size of a pea-rifle bullet. We were making a fairly good pace at the time., " My wife and another lady were in the rear seat of the car. They were naturally very much alarmed art the occurrence."
