REQUEST TO TROTTING CLUB
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
HAMILTON, Friday
An application was made at a meeting of the committed of the AVaikato Trotting C'ub last evening for the use of an area of the Claudelands course as a polo field. Messrs. W. R. J. Franklin and G. de Vere Chitt-y, who represented the interests of polo-players in the district, informed the meeting that the full extent of the inner area at Claudelands would be required for a regulation polo field and that it was essential to proceed with the levelling work without delay.
The ground would be used for tournament play only and for the Saville Cup competition in each third year. It was stated that the scheme, which was estimated to cost £4OO, would necessitate a levy upon the members of the four polo clubs in the district. As the returns from the tournaments would be limited it would not bo possible to assist the trotting club financially. After discussion the meeting decided to defer the position had been more fully investigates.
