TRAINING OF MIDWIVES.
COMPLAINT !N OTAGO,
NEED OF REVISION URGED
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "DTJNEDIN, Friday.- -
The training of mid wives was referred to at a meeting of ' the Otago Hospital. Board last evening by Mrs. Marshall MacDonald, who said the present system would act against the best interests of the hospital, and they would not be able to get trainees. If a nurse were ambitious aiid wished to take the midwifery training, she had, after taking the maternity, course here, to go- to another centre" and ha'cer'a repetition of her training. r
The whole training was cumbersome and chaotic. Women would not go in ,for this training because they would have to spend such a long time at it. The .whole system needed revising and . until', the. hospital boards did something there would be 110 change. Th 6 change should be by Ir-ai 11ing midwifery nurses and Jiot. by turning out. maternity nurses, a system which "introduced a sort of " half baked " nurse. It was decided to refer the matter .to the finance committee.
