TRADE COMMISSIONER.
APPOINTMENT TO CANADA.
ANNOUNCEMENT EXPECTED.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
WELLINGTON. Thursday.
It is likely that early action will be taken by the Government with respect to the appointment of trade commissioners to represent New Zealand abroad. The question of extending New Zealand's markets abroad has at various times engaged the attention of successive Governments of New Zealand, and in 1924, when the late Mr. Massey was Prime Minister, a clause was embodied in the Finance Act providing that the Governor-General-in-Counci.l "may from time to time appoint a person to be commissioner for New Zealand in Canada, and the United States of America, who shall hold office during the pleasuro of the GovernorGeneral."
The Government has had under consideration the question of trade representation abroad, and it is likely that after tho next meeting of Cabinet a definite announcement will bo made with reference to an appointment to Canada.
