PROGRESS OF WATERFRONT ROAD.

cir, —I should like to draw the attention of your readers to the remarkable work accomplished on that section of the road round Gower's Point from St. Heliers to Kohimarama. Two-thirds of the embankment is already completed and laced with heavy stonework, the culvert over the Kohimarama Greek is well under way and there is every indication that the work will be practically completed by Christmas. Considering that it was only started about the middle of September, it reflects the greatest credit on the staff of the City Council. Much' of the spoil is being procured locally—some from .a new road that ip being formed over the east cliff at St. Heliers, and partly by widening existing roads. As the Government is paying half the cost of labour, the burden on the ratepayers will not be heavy. We have to thank the Mayor and Mr. Bloodworth for initiating this enterprise. V I do not think the citizens of Auckland quite realise the immense importance of this road to them. In about a year it should be completed through to the city and Auckland will then have the finest marine boulevard in the Southern Hemisphere. The only three open bays left—-Mission, Kohimarama and St. Heliers—will be brought three miles nearer the city on a dead-level road, and must soon outrival the North Shore. The road will also carry a vast amount of traffic and will relieve the bottle-jieck at Newmarket. T.amaki Resident.
