POWER FOR WARKWORTH.
OVERTURE FOR SUPPLY,
WAITEMATA BOARD'S POSITION
The desire of the people of Warkworth and adjacent districts to participate in the benefits of power from Arapuni for industrial and household purposes was, brought under the notice of representatives of the Waitemata Power Board by Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., and Mr. Wenzl Scholium. It was stated that the population of the township, namely 1200, and the dairy factories and farms along the route would provide a payable load if acceptable arrangements could be made. The interview was .a preliminary overture to ascertain whether tho board would be disposed to assist if requested. Mr. J. W. Hayden, chairman of. the board, with whom were associated Messrs. G. O'Halloran and A. E. Greenslade, members, and A. Main, secretary, pointed out that the board's lines were steadily penetrating into the country along the east and west routes toward the north boundary. In tho loan proposals to be submitted at the poll next Wednesday was an allocation of £IOOO to extend the 11,000volt line to Wainui and one of £SOOO for an extension of the .11,000-volt line to Silverdale and Whangaparaoa. However, the board was on delicate ground in respect of the areas of Warkworth, Matakana, Puhoi and others mentioned by Mr. Murdoch, for they were in another power district. If an invitation was extended by those interested the members of the board would be able to pay a visit of inspection to the locality about the end of January.
