The following is a lint of the final payments for the Great Northern Trottinc Derby of £IOOO, ono milo and a-hnlf, to bo decided on tho opening day of tho Auckland Trottinc Club's forthcoming summer meeting on Friday, December 27: Purser Jin g, by Nelson Great Parrish Bingen— Princess Pool Huon Ann Pro Rata Blk g by President Lydia Wilson Princess Grand Canyon Audubon , First Flight Br £ by Sonoma IlarIdlo Girl vcsler—Given Child Flora Gay Ch g by Key do Captain Wrack Qro—Letilia B i Sonoma Har- Bo by Challenger—vester—Flos. Although he was defeated by Padlock in tho Free-for-All after winning tho New Zealand Trotting Cup for tho second year in succession, Peter Bingen is the outstanding pacer in the Dominion at present and the two records he has established in the past 12 months add lustre to his brilliant career. Last year he made an Australian and New Zealand record of 2ni 38 4-5s for a mile and a-quarter, and in his latest winning effort, he emulated that performance by establishing a world's race record of 4m 38 -l-os for two miles, Theße and other performances are undoubted proof of his excellence and thero is not the slightest doubt that ho is a horse of real class. It is interesting to relate that Peter Bingen commenced racing as a straight-out trot tor in liis three-year-old season, when ho finished second to Peterwah in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes. At that time ho was trained by J. N. Clarke, who converted him into a pacer the following season, when he raced with a good deal of success. As a five-ycar-okl Peter Bingen went into the charge of J. J. Kennerley and, except for a few months when he was under the caro of A. E. Adams lie has been with that trainer ever since. There is another interesting fact in connection with his record and it is that he did not really reach tho zenith of his powers until ho was an aged horse, and now r.t tho age of nine years ho is seemingly better than ever. > Peter Bingen is a Quality-looking horso by Nelson Biueeu from Bertha Belle, hence a full-brother to Great Bingen. who was the Dominion's champion until the mantle fell upon his younger brother. Both Peter Bingen's sire and dam were imported from America by his breeder, Mr. E. E. Lelievre, and have both achieved outstanding success at the stud here. For a time Peter Bingen was raced by his breeder and was then leased by Mr. G. S. Simpson, who passed him on to his trainer, J. J. Kennerley, when he retired from the ranks of owners to take up a position as handicapper to several clubs. Some little time back he was purchased by Mr, \V. Johnstone, of Te Kuiti, and wus temporarily away from the care o£ Kennerley until that trainer accepted the position of private trainer to the country sportsman. Full credit for the success of Peter Bingen is due to Kennerley. who has been responsible for developing him into champion class. Earlier in bis career the horse was inclined to be a trifle delfcate and was regarded as a better sprinter than a stayer. However, with age he has acquired stamina and is now a brilliant racehorse of all distances. In less capable hands he might not have developed into such a brilliant, performer and his trainer can justly feel proud of the horse's accomplishments. Up to date Peter Bingen has contested 79 races and his winnings amount to £'73S4, besides three gold cups. His record is as follows: Un--Ist. 2nd. 3rd. ith. placed.
