Lon Chancy has surrendered to the " talkies," and will appear in " Brother Officers," to bo filmed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, from tho stage play by Leo Travel's.

Dimitri Tiernkin, tho famous concert pianist, who recently electrified Paris with iiis composition, " Moulin Rougo Revue," is to composo for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Under his new contract 110 will create a series of musical compositions in tho modernistic style, for which he is best known.

" Secret Places," is the title selected for Jacques Feyder's first directorial effort for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The new picture is a vivid romance of continental Europe and presents Miss Greta Garbo in tho starring role. Conrad Nagel, Homes Herbert and Low Ayres are in tho cast.

Miss Clara Bow's third all-talking picture for Paramount, " Tho Saturday Night Kid," has been completed. The new picture was recently pro-reviewed in Hollywood. James Hall has the malo lead, and Miss Jean Arthur, Frank Ross and Miss Leono Lano are included "in the cast.

Miss Greta Garbo's latest starring vehicle, written and directed by Jacques Feyder, famous French director, has been finally titled, " The Kiss." In this picture,. Miss Garbo plays the role of a French woman, who stands her trial for the slaying of her husband, while Conrad Nagel, in the leading male role, plays tho part of the lawyer, who defends her.

A few years ago Rupert Julian and Claude Flemming were si age actors together in Sydney. One drifted to comic opera, the other to tho screen. To-day both arc under contract to Metro-Goldwyn-Maycr and Flemming, who appeared here last in " Lilac Time," is completing a role in " Unholy Night," under tho direction of Lionel Barrymorc.

It has been finally settled that Miss Norma Talmadge will mako " Du Barry," as her second talking picture, which would seem to infer that United Artists are more than satisfied with her first effort, " New York Nights." which is yet to bo released. Gilbert Roland again appears with the star, playing the role of the humble lover. The role of Louis XV. has not yet been cast. It will be remembered that Emil Jannings magnificiently acted this role in a German picture, screened under the name of " Passion."

Motion picture audiences throughout the world will bo taken within the sound stages of the Paramount studios, and witness the making of an all-talking picture, in scenes of " Behind the Make-Up," a new Paramount " talkie," featuring William Powell, Hal Skelly and Miss Fay Wray. Skelly plays the rolo of a vaudeville comedian, who is unable to set a booking. He becomes a motion picture extra and enters the sound stages with a crowd of other small part players. He noted with interest, the warning red lights, the suspended microphones, and the actors, director and others, working on a scene for a talking picture. " Behind the Make-Up," was adapted from the popular magazine story, " The Feeder," by Mildred Cram. Miss Kay Francis, Jack Luden and Paul Lukas, also play featured holes in the cast. A third dimensional camera lens that captures the convex curve of the fare in a close-up or portrait photography has been perfected by Harry Fishbeck, a wellknown cameramen, who is at, present under contract to Paramount. Fishbeck's new lens is being used for all the close-ups of Clara Bow, and supporting players in her new starring picture, " The Saturday Night Kid." The third dimensional lens preserves the natural roundness of the facial features in proper perspective and relationship, curving the flat plane of the projected image on the screen, and bringing a new depth and beauty. Fishbeck is now working toward the perfections of his now lens to that point, where it will permit " depth photography" at medium and long distances. Miss Clara Bow is supported bv a big cast in " The Saturday Night Kid." including James Hall and Jean Arthur.
