DECORATIVE WINDOWS.
AN ATTRACTIVE WHIM. In present-day house interiors even utility fittings are put to decorative purpose and made to lend themselves to the general colour or period scheme. Windows, which are naturally among tho most prominent features in any room or hall, aro receiving their share of attention, and there are varying opinions on the manner in which theso should be treated with regard to both lighting and decorativeness.
Thcro is a tendency where colourfnlncss is demanded to revert to the leaded stained glass associated with the windows of baronial halls, through tlio brilliant heraldic motifs of which the sunlight glowed richly crimson, golden and azure. But the conventional emblazoned shields and crests have been superseded. A clever blending of colours in an attractive picture is the purpose. The designing of stained-glass windows and window plaques is a branch of applied art which is proving an inspiration to woman artists and craftswomen, in London and abroad, judging from the beautiful examples of their work being used in modern houses.
