THE BOGGED SHEEP.

One day we were out for a ride and we saw a sheep lying down, and we thought it was quite alright so we -.vent on. But when we were riding by the same place the next day it was still there and we went over to have a look at it and found it was bogged. We tried to get it- out but it was very hard, because its wool was full of prickles. We got its fropt legs out but wo couldn't get its hind leg' out, so we rodo home and got some oth,er people to help us and it was very boggy, and wo got our shoes very dirtv and oor stockings all covered with mud. Tb» poor sheep was so stiff and tired fro" 1 struggling to get out that it couldnt stand so we had to rub its legs for a time and then we tried to make it walk, only it couldn't walk without our holding , it. So we gave it a rest and half carrieit, and it half walked across some m9 r# bog and up a slope of a hill. When w® got it up there it began to grind its teeth and then we gave it some grass and then we held it up and it began to pick a little itself. Then we noticed a piece of rather flat ground not quite so sloping a o ,® wo helped it over there and propped it up against some rushes and then we had to go homo to dinner. In the afternoon we thought we had better go and havo another look at it and when wo got to the place we soon saw a lot of sheep running away from us and we saw that one running too, only not so fast as the other ß so it must have quite recovered. —Peter Herrick, Tautano, Herbertvulo» Hawke's I[ay (Ago 8 years) (6 marks)-
