NEW PARNELL SCHOOL.
ST. STEPHEN'S AVENUE* REPLACING MAORI COLLEGE. The present site of St. Stephen's School at the corner of St. Stephen's Avenue and Gladstone Road is to be purchased by the Education Board, which will erect the new Parnell school on the area. Authorisation for the purchase of the four acres has been received by the board from the Education Department, and the demolition of the old buildings will be carried out when St. Stephen's school moves out into the country next year. There are four acres in the property, which is triangular in shape, and quite level. Negotiations have been going on for a long time for the purchase of the site by the board, and the Church of England Trust Board controlling St. Stephen's School finally agreed to the sale when it acquired a large area at Bombay'for educational purposes. The persent Parnell school 'is one of the oldest school buildings jn Auckland, and with the extension of the factory ares andUthe increase in traffic the site becamo unsuitable, quite apart from the fact that the building was out-of-date. In addition, the residential population served by the school has moved further from it and children have in some cases to travel considerable distances to attend.
