EPSOM TRAINING NOTES.

PREPARING FOR SATURDAY. • (. ■; y ) ] f- 1 : : < With tho Auokland Trotting Club's Spring Mooting opening on Saturday,, activity ia increasing daily on tho local training tracks and trainers are now busy finishing off the preparations of the horses they have engaged at tho meeting. Weather and track conditions were perfect for training operations at Alexandra Park yesterday, but it was an off morning and thero was not much' fast work, although thoro wero many horses out working. J. Shaw's horses, Warplano and Carmel. wero hoppled up and indulged in somo solid ;work. They both paced with plenty of freedom and finished up strongly. Warplane is a fit horso and it will not bo for lack of condition if he fails to raco prominently in his coming engagements. Carmel is also well, despite tho stoppage in his work recontly, and thoro should bo little fault to bo found .with his condition when ho is produced at the end of tho 'week. Another of Bhaw'a charges in Nativo Prince was also worked soundly. Without the' hopples he went over several circuits at a sound clip and was pacing very evenly throughout. Nativo Princo is in tho principal cventß, and, though ho has Bhown no form over two miles since winning over that distance last spring, it is on tho cards that ho will raco well. His winning performance over a milo and a-auarter at Addington in August was attractive. Without tho hopples, Torpedo Huon was indulged in sound work over two miles and went evenly throughout. This fellow has not recorded anything special on tho tracks lately, but ho is carrying a bright appearnnco and is pacing better than ho was a few weeks ago. Another to work unhoppled was Student Prince, who coverod two miles smoothly. Student Princo waß prominent for seven furlongs in tho milo harness event at tho Northland meeting and may do.better at tho coming meeting if he stands up to his work, for he hvas short of a little fast work when ho racfcd'at tho country fixturo. Tho trotters Etta Colo and Direct Action worn separately worked soundly by F. Gilchrist. . Etta Colo sprinted a couple of halves solidly and Direct Action moved with freedom. V. Alborn's horses, Linkman and Salient, who arrived on Sunday, wero out working steadily. Linkman looks a picturo and is expected to give a good account of himself in tho leading events here. Salient also carries a bright appearance and is evidently in good form, as he registered 3m 85 2-53 in finishing second at Methven early in tho month. SEASON'S FIXTURES.
