REPAIR WORK ON ROADS. LOAN OF £2IOO SOUGHT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. TE AROHA, Monday. The Piako County Council met thi afternoon, tho chairman, Mr. W. E Lowry, presiding. The Waitemata County Council rc quested support of a resolution protestin to tho Government against tho impositioi of a heavier rate necessitated by a heav; sinking fund in respect of short-perioi loans. No action was taken. Tho engineer, Mr. B. Horner, reporte< that shoulders had been built on fivo mile of roads, nearly two miles of metallin] had been laid on McCabe's Road, and 13* yards of metal spread on other roads. When two applications were received fo billiard room licences at Waitoa, the chair man moved that tho applicants be in formed that tho council had no jurisdic tion in such matters. This gave rise ti some discussion, in tho course of whicl it was elicited that in the absence o council by-laws for such matters tho bil liard room proprietor could frame his owi regulations to conduct saloons. It was resolved to seek the sanction o the Local Government Loans Board t bitumenise 3£ miles of the To Aroha Morrinsville main highway in the Waito; Riding at a cost of £2IOO.
