LAWN TENNIS.

THE Y.M.C.A. CLUB. The Y.M.C.A. Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday in the presence of 80 players. Mr. E. E. Kitchener, president, welcomed members and visitors and commented upon the very much improved condition of ine four courts. He stated that during tho winter months a considerable sum of money had been spent in improving the condition of courts, the work having been done under the personal supervision of Mr. J. Davies, of the Stanley Street courts. Mrs. Kitchener served the first ball which was received by Mrs. W. Fortune. The club captain, Mr. W. Fortuno, arranged a very successful progressive tournament during the afternoon, giving every player an equal opportunity for securing games. The president presented tho trophies won by players in the last season's club competitions. PAPAKURA CLUB. The president, Mr. James McCall, welcomed visitors from the Clevedon, Brookby, Karaka. Methodist Church und Christchurch clubs at the official opening of the Papakura Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday. Miss Annie McLennan served the first ball. The occasion was taken advantage ot by the club members, combined with the I'apakura Golf Club, to present Mr. G. A. Smith, who has been transferred to Auckland, with a small memento of their appreciation of his efforts on behalf of both clubs, of which he was secretary. Dr. W. G. Bridgman spoke on behalf of the tennis club, and Mr. J. E. Elliott for the golf club. LOWER WAIKATO ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Lower Waikato Lawn Tenuis Association was held at Taupiri. The report and balance-sheet showed a very satisfactory state of affairs. The following officers were elected dent, Mr. H. J. Sampson; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. P. Burke, W. C. Broughton. A. Penman, R. T. Hill, F. Harris. Mrs. Hill; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. D. Sampson: selectors, Messrs. ft. Berry and R. Gleeson. , It was resolved that in future match teams should consist of four ladies and four men. A committee was set up to arrange for a tournament in January. MAIRTOWN" CLtB'S SEASON. Tho official opening of the Mairtown Tennis Club's season was held on Saturday afternoon, wjien there was an attendance of over 40 members and friends. Tho weather was perfect. Tho president, Mr. R. C. M. Barington, in declaring the courts open for the new season, expressed the hope that the club would experience a most successful year.
