SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION. SEASON OPENS ON NOVEMBER 2. SOLE SELECTOR APPOINTED. Tho management committee of tho Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association met last evening, Mr. J. F. W. Dickson presiding. The uneven state of tho Domain Cricket Ground was mentioned by Mr. J. Elliott, who expressed surprise at the bnckward condition of the wickets. It is apparently no fault of tho caretaker, said Mr. Elliott, but tho ground ia worse now than it has beon at any pievious period. The fact that insufficient labour was available at the Domain appeared" responsible for tho existing conditions. Another delegate expressed tho opinion that tho wickets would not bo ready for play on November 2. Mr. E. Stallworthy's suggestion that action be deferred ufitil a deputation had waited on tho Parks Committee of tho City Council was agreed to. Following the tequest of several commercial houses it was decided to organiso a Wednesday competition- and a committee was appointed to form an association. It was decided to support th 6 Green Lane Club in its effort to recognise the services of the late Mr. H. L. Claudet, who was one of the founders of the association. Permission was granted to the following clubs to play matches 011 Labour Day:— Harbour Board, at Pnkekohe; Green Lane, at Helensvillo; and, if it can be urranged, Albion, at Waiuku. Mr. A. Stanley was appointed delegate to the New Zealand Conference, which will meet at. Wellington on Labour Day. It was reported that five teams had been nominated for the senior grade B competition and after discussion it .was decided to defer the draw pending consideration with the junior' management committee. Tho question of Auckland's participation in this year's Walker Shield competition at Christmas was raised by Mr, G. McConnell, who said that owing to tho existing financial position the matter required careful consideration. Mr. Stallworthy ntrongly opposed any attempt to cancel the competition. He said Auckland wns tho holder of the shield and was duty bound to defend the trophy, in spite of tho fact that tho tournament was to oe held at Auckland. It was pointed out, that it -would be cheaper to travel under the existing conditions. It was decided to instruct tho delegate to approach the Wellington Association with a view to exchanging dates for the matches with that body« On the casting vote of the chairman it was decided to appoint a sole selector, the appointment to be made at tho next meeting. It was decided to open the scastyi on November 2 and the following draw was arranged for the first series in tho senior grade A competition:—Harbour Board v. Ellerslie, Albion v. W.Y.M.1., i'ousonby v. Green Lane.
