CAR STRIKES TREE.
DRIVER BURNED TO DEATH. EXPLOSION OF PETROL. Mr. James Croevey, aged 34, manager of Binalong Station, Queensland, wasburned to death early on the morning of October 7 when the motor-car ho was driving along the Charleville-Augathella Road burst into flames after striking a tree. Five other occupants of the car were burned and injured. They were:—F. Smith, broken leg and severe burns; H. Webster, severe burns all over the body; P. Murphy, severe burns to arms and face; 'J'. Creevey and M. Crccvey, received burns, and after treatment were allowed to go to their homes. The others were taken to hospital. When the accident occurred, the men were being driven to their places of employment, .about 200 miles up the Wnrrego River. Mr. Creevey managed to avoid striking tho tree with the front of the car, but the rear wheel was torn off and the car skidded. The petrol tank immediately burst into flames, exploding two sparo tins of petrol in, tho car. Mr. Creevey was apparently stunned with tho shock of the impact, and the others were powerless to help him. He was burned to death. -
