MAN CHARGED WjTH ASSAULT ATTACK ON FATHER ALLEGED. "The serious aspect of this matter has ceased now," said Sub-Inspector McCarthy in. the Police Court yesterday, when Alfred Edward Barnes, aged 26, motor-driver, was charged with assaulting his father, John Theodore Barnes, causing him actual bodily harm. It was alleged that the offence was committed at the father's home at 38, West Street, Newton, on the evening of October 12. Mr. Singer, who represented accused, said that while at first it was thought that the father was in a serious condition, ho was now able to appear in Court. Counsel asked for a further remand, which was granted, accused being ordered to appear on Thursday. Bail was renewed in accused's own recognisance on the same terms as before. A lcinand to appear in Christehurch next Monday was made in the case of Ernest Cray Roach, aged 22, labourer, charged with forging a Post Office Savings Bank withdrawal slip for £45 10s in Christchurch on October 7.
