QUEENSLAND RAILWAYS.
A SERIOUS POSITION.
BRANCH LINES MAY BE CLOSED.
Tho Queensland Minister for Railways, Mr. Morgan, has hinted at the possibility of Some branch lines being closed. He said that the railways had been built at enormous expense to encourage settlement., and agricultural and primary products wero carried at exceptionally low rates. If, however, higher class goods were given to road motors to convey, it becafno a question pf whether the Railway Department could continue to carry primary products at the low rates existing to"day. Unless primary producers used the railways to a much greater extent tho Government would bo compelled to cjoso some of tho branch lines, increase rates on primary products, or in some instances reduce train services.
