VICTORY FOR DONOVAN
GRIFFITHS' GAME DEFENCE
[BX TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.! NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. In a boxing contest yesterday scheduled for 15 rounds. Tommy Donovan (Waitnra) defeated' Tonuny Griffiths (Dunedia), by a technical knock-out in the twelfth round. Both men scaled 8.13. . It was an extremely willing contest, in *hich Griffiths. by hia cleverness in the earlier rounds, saved himself much Punishment, but Donovan was always predorninant. Griffiths was twice down in the tentu r °Tho' end came in the twelfth round when Donovan ripped a right to tho bwly aud right crossed to the lieart. Griffiths went down for a count of nine. He rose, and Donovan rushed him to the ropes and crashed three rights into his jaw. Crnmths was knocked out, but remained eiect b> banging- on to the ropes. The referee stopped the contest.
