RESULTS OF SATURDAY'S PLAY.

Several bowling clubs in Auckland bold their oliieial openings on Saturday. Favoured by good weather conditions there were large attendances at all greens, and many enjoyable games wero played.

TIIE EPSOM CLUB

Alio Epsom bowling and croquet greens presented a gay appearanco when the official opening ceremony took place. The pavilion was specially decorated for the occasion, and thoro was a largo gathering of members and friends, as well as representatives of neighbouring clubs. Tho president of tho club, Mr. C. Bla.key, in extending a welcome to tho visitors, said he was very pleased to see so many old members present. Lie referrcd to the loss sustained by tho club through tho deaths of such valued members as Messrs. J. Buttle, J. Lock, F. Richmond and O. Townsend. The Auckland Centro executivo was represented by Messrs. S. Coldicutt, president, T. Proctor and A. Yeoman. Mr. Coldicutt said Epsom was ono of tho most prosperous clubs in Auckland. Ho bad fust attended its official opening in 1907, when ho was secretary of the Auckland Bowling Club. Epsom had then been in existence a year and had taken several members of the older club, who had been extremely useful in helping to lay the foundation of tho new one. Mr. Coldicutt mentioned, as an instanco of tho closo friendship existing among bowlers, that he had that day received a cablegram from Mr. Jame's Pascoe. of Auckland. a vice-president of tho Dominion executive, sent from Genoa, where Mr. Pascoe was touring. Mr. Pascoe wished the clubs of tho Auckland Centro every success with their openings. After references had been made to (be assistance of the ladies the preens were declarod officially open amid cheers. During (he afternoon refreshments wero provided and music was rendered bv O'llalloran's orchestra.

The Onehtingn bowling and croquet greens wero opened by the bowling president. Mr. R. Buchanun, who complimented tho committeo on the general appearance of the club's property and especially the fine condition of the three, greens now in use Ho said it was pleasing to him and all bowlers that Onehunga was coming back to the old days, when it was considered io havo tho best greens in Auckland. He invited all present to see the beautiful display of red tulips and blue .cornflowers which decorated the afternoon tea kiosk, these being supp'ied olid arranged by Mrs. and Miss fichnauer. After Mrs. Buchanan threw the firßf jack the president declared the greens ooen for play, tho official ceremony of tho bowling section being concluded by the presentation to Mrs. Buchanan of a bouquet of sweetpeas and roses by Miss Mario MacFnrquhar. The official opening of tho Waiuku Bowling and Croquet Clubs' green took place yesterday in 11io presence of about 200 members. Tho visitors included Mr. J. M. Thomson, of the Auckland Bowling Centre. The president of the bowling club, Mr. J. O. Crouch, declared the green open, and ilrs. Crouch threw the first jack. Mrs. H. Fluvell, president of the croquet club declared the croquet green open. During the afternoon the president of tho bowling club, on behalf ot tho members, presented tho groon suprintendent, Mr. If. Flavell, with a pipe, us a mark of appreciation of his services. Mrs. Fenwick, who was secretary of the croquet club for many years, was. presented with a silver plate on tho occasion of her silver wedding anniversary. which fell to-day.
