PLUNKET SOCIETY.
Tho monthly meeting of the committee of tho To Awamutu branch of the Plunket Society was held at Te Awamutu this week, the chair being taken by tho president, Mrs. I'eake. A cheque was received from the Pirongia sub-branch for the full amount of their contribution for the current financial together with a first payment on the scales. Tho nurso's report showed 17 cases for tho month of September; 40 visits to homes; visits to rooms, adults, 119; babies, 112; older children, 8; total visits, 279; telephone calls, 30; babies under supervision, 172; older children, 28. Acting upon the advico given at the closo of tho carnival two years ago by the finance committee of the advisory board in the matter of raising funds, it was decided to hold a Paddy's Market (with the permission of the Borough Council) in November The Government subsidy provides (roughly) one-third only of tho minimum income necessary to carry on a branch's work, and tho society is dependent upon public generosity for the provision of tho remainder. Somo of it comes from parents and some from those whose foresight shows them the ultimate good to tho nation as a whole of the healthier rising generation fostered by the society's efforts. There is still a margin left uncovered, however, which renders necessary such things as Paddy's Markets
