MARKET REPORTS. FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES. Excessive waste marked the shipment of Island fruit brought to Auckland by j the Waipahi this week, and most of the ! fruit had to be repacked before being offered at the Auckland City Markets. | Bananas and oranges were both in poor, condition. As a result the market will be somewhat bare of this fruit for some time ; tr, come. Early supplies of this season's strawberries reached the city markets in ; small quantities yesterday. The superior j quality Captain Cook were quoted at the luxury price of 2s 7d, with Marguerites at Is 6d. Apples fell about a shilling a case in value and were harder to dispose of yesterday. Good pears are still selling freely. Lemons were very dull, following the tendency that has prevailed over the greater part of the season. A shipment of Australian citrus fruit arrived early in the week and realised satisfactory prices. The first spring vegetables such as green Ceas, French beans and new potatoes, are eginning to come forward in good quantities. It is expected that in a week or ten .days' time they will be sufficiently plentiful to sell at reasonable rates. New potatoes may then be expected to compete in price witn last season's Southern ones. All classes of root vegetables are in heavy supply, with a fair demand from buyers. Supplies are also heavy in the other classes of non-seasonal produce. The market was glutted with rhubarb yesterday, soiling at low prices. The supply of poultry was medium at yesterday's auctions and the demand was keen for table birds. Prices remained at about on a par with last week's quotations.

No further alteration has occurred in the prices for butter and eggs. A moderate supply of eggs met with a good demand and for farmers' butter at ruling rates a keen demand was experienced for moderate supplies. The following prices wore realised yesterday : FRUIT.
