THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

FIRMER TONE OF MARKET

A firmer tono prevailed on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when all the business recorded was dono at either current or higher levels. Buyers offered for all Government Bonds and Inscribed Stocks, but sellers quoted in only one instance. Inscribed Stocks, 1938, per cent., were dono at £IOO 7s 6d and £IOO 10s, compared with the previous day's sale at £IOO 10s.

Bank shares wore again in demand at fumcr rates. Australasias wero dono at £l4 2s 6d, equal to tho current price in Wellington. Ton days ago these shares sold in Auckland at £l4 lis 6d. Commercials of Australia wore practically unchanged with two sales at 20s lid, and New Zealands were dono twice at tho cunt-nt price, 60s 4d. In insurance New Zealands and South British both mado headway. Tho latter advanced 2d with a salo at the noon call at 465, which was followed by another forward move, a second transaction being made at the late call at 46s 3d. Soul. British had salo twice Is dearer at 655. The loan and agency group was steady, and Goldsbrough-Morts changed hands twice at tho current price, 45s 9d. In gas tho contributing issue of Aucklands wus dono twico at 18s 3d, an improvement of ono penny. The shipping and woollon groups were noglected. In breweries both issues of C. L. Innes and Company wero wanted 6d doarcr, and New Zealands, at 88s 6d, sold Is better than recent southern sales. Staples had salo at 535, compared with 53s 6d on tho Chi istchurch market. There was little movoment in the miscellaneous section, and the mining group also was quiet. Waihis wero dono one penny firmer at 13s 6d.
