DEVONPORT BOROUGH.
NON-RATEABLE LAND.
EXTENSION OF A RESERVE
Tho Dovonport Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. E. Aldridge, presiding. . Tho Mayor reported that no arrangements had yet been made to interview Commodore Blake, tho new commodore of the New Zealand Navy, with repaid to non-rateable lands in the borough held for naval and defence purposes. He slated he would bo leaving shortly on a business trip to the South and ho would endeavour to meet the Minister of Marine and discuss I lie matter and also urge Government assistance in bituminising Queen's Parade. The Auckland Harbour Board wrote agreeing to tho leaso to the council of the area known as "Rat Island," as an extension of the Ngataringa Bay lieserve. It was stated tho "island" was an area covered only at high tide. It was proposed to reclaim tho area and a special rating area would be set up for tlio purpose. It was decided to accept the offer and to carry out the improvements stipulated. Members expressed approval of the successful negotiations between tho Mayor and the Harbour Board.
Notification was received of the approval bv the Auckland Harbour Board of tho site and plan of the new dinghy sheds at Queen's Parade. It was stated preliminary work had already been commenced.
It was decided to proceed immediately with tarring and sanding work for the season, a list of works for attention being approved. It was reported that 23 permits for buildings valued at £5276 had been issued during August. It was decided to carry out, repairs to bathing Sheds at tho Narrow Neck beach and to the pavilion on the cricket ground at the Domain.
