LABOUR IN BRITAIN.
HAND OF EXTREMISTS.
OFFICIALS BEING EXPELLED.
DISSENSION AMONG REDS.
SEAMEN AND THE MINERS.
Australian' and N.Z. Prose Association. LONDON, B.ept, 19,
Tho British section of the League against Imperialism has expelled from membership its chairman, Mr, James Maxton, M.P., who also is chairman of the' Independent Labour Party. Tho reasons given are his neglect to fight tho Labour Government on its policy in Egypt and his support of tho Government's measures to crush tho Arab revolt in Palestine. f Mr. Maxton has informed the league that he does not intend to bo bullied. Dissension in tho ranks of tho British Communist Purty is revealed by demands from a number of branches for the removal from the political bureau of Messrs. Harry Pollitt, Arthur Horner and J. R. Campbell on the ground that they aro membors of tho right wing of Che Labour Party,
These apparently have been instigated by Moscow, which is dissatisfied with the' achievements of the Communists in Britain and insists upon a more intense war being carriod on against the Labour Government.
Tbo Seamen's Union, after numerous conferences with the miners, has resolved to dissociato itself from Mr. G. A. Spiencor's Non-political Miners' Union. It has pledged its support in counteracting the injury which has arisen from its former association with that union.
This is all a prelude to the Seamen's Union rejoining the Trades Union Congress. It will bo remembered that legal action was taken before the death of Mr. Havelock Wilson, president of the Seamen's Union, because the seamen mado a grant of £IO,OOO to Mr. Spencer's union.
