HERD-TESTING MOVEMENT.
CALF-MARKING SCHEME. GREAT AID TO INDUSTRY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOTIKI, Friday. The Dominion supervisor of the Herdtesting Federation, Mr. C. M. Hume, visited Opotiki yesterday and addressed ft meeting of farmers, this being his first meeting since his appointment. Mr. Humo explained that he was in tho district chiefly to givo instructions testing officers with regard to the initiation of a calf-marking scheme. Calf-marking had boon .tho greatest factor in tho development of herd-testing work in tho Waikttto, whero over 95,000 cows are under test this year. Mr. Humo gave tho essentials in earmarking. It is expected that an immediate start will bo made by tho Opotiki Testing Association in adopting the scheme. Mr. Humo then referred to tho good results obtained through herd-testing.
